The assignment of the diploma thesis was preceded by the course NGA056 Specialized studio on the topic Architectural study of the cycling stadium of the Favorit Brno sports organization. The result of this pre-diploma project was the evaluation of the current condition of the velodrome and the creation of an option for its possible modification or demolition. The diploma thesis is a continuation of the previous project and in the form of a study it elaborates a proposal for a new building of the cycling stadium of the Favorit Brno sports organization. The newly designed velodrome responds to the current requirements of track cycling, such as the length of the track (250 m), the track material, the roofing of the building, and it also takes care to meet all the needs of athletes and visitors. The building is situated on the site of the original velodrome in Brno-Pisárky.

The aim of the diploma thesis is the architectural design of the stadium for track cycling. It deals with a covered hall, which is located in the area of Komárov on the territory of the sports resort Hněvkovského. The urban design ofthe territory is elaborated simultaneously with the study of the hall. The resort offers a wide range of sport fields for recreational as well as top athletes, and the new velodrome hall should dominate the entire area. The buildingprovides background for the important cycling club TJ Favorit Brno. It also responds to the current requirements of track cycling and thus enables the organization of international races.

The diploma thesis was preceded with the specification of specialised atelier TG02 of which the purpose was to prepare an urbanistic study of sport area Hněvkovského territory that is found in the municipal district Brno - Komárov. The urbanistic design was aimed to create an important territory for sport professional as well as relax activities. The specification included also the design of current BMX area and creation of background for sportsmen as well as visitors. The diploma thesis that deals with the building of cycling stadium in form of a study links to this theme. The stadium is situated in the North-East part of the areas, near Hněvkovského road. The design regards sufficient scattering surfaces around the building, simple orientation in the building´s surroundings as well as in the building itself is emphasised. Its glass façade is an important expression element of the building as well as the video mapping systems proposed for projection and lighting of this façade. The attractiveness of the whole area is underlined with parking areas, refreshment point of current cycling track and new area of sport activities (dirt park, ball games).

The diploma thesis is focused on an architectonic study of cycling stadium in Brno Komárov that shall substitute the current velodrome at Brno´s fair ground that does not conform to current Olympic standards and that shall provide new and better conditions not only for the club Favorit Brno base but also for other enthusiastic sportsmen of track cycling. The study regards also the future adding of another sport, of athletics as Brno has not enough of covered training areas. That is why I add the cycling with this sport in my diploma thesis so that the building can offer its maximum not only to top sportsmen but also occasional sport enthusiasts and to enrich its surroundings to its maximum. The building design uses combination of concrete, steel and glass. Large glass façade is shielded with a great roof overlap that shall provide a natural shielding in summer period. The diploma thesis was preceded with a specialised atelier TG02 that was focused on the development of adjacent surfaces, on the BMX track that should closely cooperate with the new cycling stadium. The specified territory in Komárov Brno presents a great sport potential that shall be developed in the future.

The diploma thesis extends the architectural study of the undergraduate project, which was focus on the topic of buildings with a sports content. The aim of this diploma thesis is design of specific stadium for track cycling competitions at the level of Olympic buildings. Design of building also contains the necessary operational and technical background of the construction. The main idea of the project was to create a building providing dignified areas for sports, spectators, multifunctional and, last but not least, a quality and functional architecture. It is also necessary to create club spaces for members of the Favorit Brno cycling club and also for visitors to sport events. The building consists of one main mass of the building, which is divided both, operationally and dispositionally into several units and floors. The main goal of the project was to create a simple velodrome mass that will be able to respond to the fragmented surrounding buildings and also create a comprehensive public space. Interior of the round stadium with a radial floor plan is sophisticatedly divided into tracts, which are served by a system of corridors. The race track itself is then located on the 2nd floor. An important factor of the design was also enough light, which is necessary to get into a large part of the massive building. The rough dimensions of the building are about 120 m in diameter and 21 m in height. The underground floor, which is used primarily for parking, reaches a depth of 3.8 m. The architectural study also includes the use for selected existing buildings, such as the building of the Favorit sports club, that will contains catering operation, important areas with energy of the building, as well as administrative and club premises. A specialized project of „Architectural study of modification of the bicycle stadium Favorit Brno in the BVV area and urban design of the Hněvkovský sports complex in Komárov“ preceded the diploma thesis. The aim of the project was preparation of the area for cycling stadium with all the necessary facilities and functional connections. The diploma thesis develops a previous project and elaborates the compound of the cycling stadium in a form of a study. The building should recpect to the current demands of this sport, such as a closed roof of the building, siberian pine track material and a 250-meter track length. The building will be situated in the area adjacent to the current biker complex in Brno Komárov.
